I guess I'm just getting old! The T-18 never used Pop rivets! This misinformation tells me I can't trust what is being said! I was around when it first showed up! My first Fly-in was Rockford 1960! Please do a better job of checking your facts!
You are absolutely correct, even internal rivets were driven, external were flush driven, maybe what he should have said was it was originally designed that it "could" be built using pop rivets... Good call on that!

The stunt pilot of the Romanian "YR-PAX" registered Bücker biplane killed himself in 1946 after a failed love-affair. The plane is still around, stored in the Smithsonian Museum.

Perhaps you could show a picture of how that camera looks in it's mounting, just can't work it out. Is it gyroscopic?
It's a GoPro 360 Max, no gyro, just films in 360 from a fixed mount from 2 lenses, lets you view and angle in the software. Not as exotic as you might have imagined, sorry...

@@bardenaviation Brother, when i was there i could not believe how cheap they could teach a man to fly. Their business of flying is second to their goal of making aviators. What i mean is it seems like that at some airfields the financial side of the airstrip is the main theme, always a pitch or trying to get a buck out of you. At Stewart you can sit around and talk about planes. If you wanna buy one they can maybe help you with that as well...if you ask. There is so much more than the basics of flying to be learned there, especially from the mechanics. I haven been to not too many fields but i will say that in the summer months Red Stewart is a good place to hop to, watch some tail draggers with students in them, then hit another airfield for lunch. Plenty to choose from, some with courtesy car as well. Just ask somebody at the office. Im currently working in oilfield logistics in Steubenville, Ohio and i just may have to ride down to 40I. OH yeah they have sky diving there as well!!!
Man there’s soo many facts that this guy gets completely wrong.. a few of the ones that bugged me were, the new Panama Canal expansion that was opened in 2016 is now 218 feet wide.. there was also 24 Essex class carriers, not 22, and Japan didn’t have the largest navy at the outbreak of ww2, the UK did, and by the end of the war, the U.S. had more than double the amount of ships as the next country with the largest navy at over 7,000 ships total

Very interesting! My dad purchased a Starduster Too that he helped build with a friend of his. It was a great airplane but unfortunately suffered the exact same issue with the landing gear in the late 90’s. He and my mom both survived the ground loop but he never put the plane back together and he never flew again after that day. He still has it and has offered it to me but I know absolutely nothing about building and rebuilding an airplane, so I haven’t taken it off his hands yet. Side note- they used a landing gear off of a Cessna 180 or 185 and figured it was the culprit and was going with the more traditional landing gear designed by Stolp. Glad I stumbled across this video, super cool!
Oh wow, that is amazing how similar the stories are! I also had heard there were different landing gear styles tried, but did not know of any that tried Cessna gear. Wonder if it's something with the overall design, as even with different gear there were still a lot of ground loops. Sad that your Dad's plane has not flow again, but maybe it will again when the time is right. Thank you for sharing the very relevant information!

@@bardenaviation It's a Starduster Too! Anyone who knows this design understands its significance for experimental aviation. 8mm footage of a first flight in 1972? Historical evidence doesn't get much more evocative than that. Have you alerted the EAA museum that this footage exists?

@@bardenaviation I work on several homebuilts and two motorgliders that fly with VW engines. The gliders and one of the homebuilts use Limbach engines, which are highly modified VWs intended for motorgliders. The special Limbach parts are getting really scarce.
I'll bet that little aircraft is a handful to fly...

Try driving an ambulance thru there multiple times a day. All while being told by your employer and EAA to not use your lights, sirens, or horn. Because you might upset some of the idiots who won’t move out of your way while trying to save someone life..
That sounds very stressful! Thanks for being there though, we all do appreciate you guys, even though some may be completely oblivious to everything around them... Oshkosh has gotten packed with people more by the year... Stay safe and thanks again for doing one of the toughest jobs out there!

Dang, I thought we'd get to see Auxiliary Control up front of the ship. They never show those and they are important. People need to know that there is a second control area where these ships can be controlled and steered if the Island is destroyed in war.

@@bardenaviation Thanks, I just noticed that you had responded. I never served in the Navy, wanted to (I'm 50) but health issues prevented it. That said I have always loved the Navy and I've did quite a bit of researching of the Essex class. I believe there were 32 ordered but they cancelled 8 of them leaving 24 of them. Oriskany CV-34 was the last one to be built and was very modified versus the others. It's sad that it wasn't preserved for that reason alone, it was special. Course it really looked bad before they sunk it as a reef, they had just left it to rust. The last Essex to serve was the Lexington CV-16 and it was serving, at the time, as a trainer ship for navy aviators. She wasn't decommissioned until late of 1991, almost 1992! That was a good run!
One more thing. Of all the preserved Essex's , Yorktown really does look the worst. Sadly. I am from South Carolina and the first time I ever went on Yorktown was 1979, have been many times over the years. That said, Yorktown looks so bare. There is little to nothing on the mast or the island up there. The radars were taken off, the RADOME, antennas, etc. Interestingly Intrepid and Hornet both have all theirs (Yorktown would have had the same types, same era). Lexington is the only preserved one that would have different antennas and radars but that is because it served a lot longer and has newer technology. The Island and Mast on Yorktown should look identical to Intrepid and Hornet. Intrepid is the best looking and best preserved. Honestly the Intrepid looks like it could sail tomorrow, it looks that good. Of course they did dry dock it several years back in the mid 2000's and painted and shored up some things. New York is a rich state though so they had the money to do it right. Hornet does look good though and has it's proper tech up top. They have some docents on their staff, many who served on that ship and still know how to operate it and have a wealth of knowledge. I found a lot of those videos on UA-cam about it, I'd say they have some of the best staff on that ship. Lastly, you'd think that the Patriots Point people would at least had some metal people that could have made some "dummy" radars and antennas that were in the same style that it should have on it. That would at least make the ship look whole and proper, I mean its not like they could ever use them if they had the real ones up there and were powered up. Dummy ones would be enough to make the ship look great. Sorry to write a book, haha, I just enjoy Naval history.

This reminds me of the Dick Stark's Dawn Patrol. The nearest Neuport in the video seemed to be bouncing quite a bit, but I suspect it was a glitch in the video. Looked like a lot of fun !

Does Thorp Central have any OEM agreements for engines and props to get the reduced prices? Similar to what other kit makers offer, usually requiring a kit # to purchase those items.
I do no think so, but they can definitely recommend some sources. I would say reach out and see, it is possible they might have some connections.
I figured that. I emailed Cubes but never got a reply. So I figured he had no such arrangement. It is nice if they have agreements with prop manufacturers and engine makers. Saves a lot of money. But there are still used engines out there. @@bardenaviation
